It can be issued in P12/PFX /HSM. Class 2 Document Signer Certificate can be issued in P12 / PFX File & Class 3 Can be downloaded in HSM Only. Purpose of Document Signer is mainly for automated signing and also to reflect organizational accountability. Organization need to confirm issuance mode (File, USB or HSM) before issuance of Certificate.

Unlike an Organizational Digital Signature where the signature is issued to individual name with organizational value, Document Signer Certificates are issued to Organizational legal name. Document Signer Certificates are available in Class 2 and Class 3 Document Signer and is meant for signing at organizational capacity. As per Interoperability guidelines of CCA, Document Signer Certificate contains additional Object Identifier (OID) in “Certificate Policies” of the certificate. That is: 2.16.356.100.2.2 The Organizational Document Signer Certificates is different from a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) issued to an Organization for use of a person in official capacity bearing the name of the department or subdivision of the organization the person belongs to.

Document Signer Certificates fall under the category of Special Purpose Certificates, in the IOG (Interoperability Guidelines for Digital Signature Certificates issued under Information Technology Act. Version 3.5 20 June 2018 issued by CCA) these are termed as ‘Organizational Document Signer Certificate’ and are issued to organizational software applications for operating automatically to authenticate documents/information attributed to the organization by using Digital Signature applied on the document, documents/Information. Document Signer Certificates’ purpose is mainly for mainly for automated signing and also to reflect organizational accountability.
