FAQ - What is changing in DSC USB Tokens in India?

Answer - India’s Digital Signature ecosystem is moving from older FIPS 140-2 compliant USB tokens to newer FIPS 140-3 compliant secure cryptographic tokens as per advisory issued under the Office of the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA).

FAQ - What is the last date for using current FIPS 140-2 tokens for DSC download ?

Answer - 20th September 2026. As per CCA guidelines, All Certifying Authorities (CAs) must stop issuing DSCs in FIPS 140-2 tokens by 21 September 2026.

FAQ - Will Current FIPS 140-2 tokens stop working after 21 September 2026?

Answer - No. Existing DSCs already downloaded into FIPS 140-2 tokens before the 21st Sept will continue to work till the expiry of the DSC certificate. For example, you download a 3 years validity dsc in current FIPS 140-3 Tokens on 20th Sept 2026, so it will work till 19th Sept 2029.

FAQ - If DSC is already downloaded in old token, will it continue working?

Anwer - Yes. If the DSC is downloaded before the migration deadline ( 21st Sept 2026 ), the token can still be used normally till the certificate validity expires. But after dsc expiry, dsc can not be downloaded again.

FAQ - We have purchased DSC Tokens currently, What will happen to them?

Answer - Use them before 20^th Sept 2026 & Wait for any buy back/ exchange / update policy from OEMs. Check about any of these policies by Aug 2026. Currently, there is no information provided by OEMs.

FAQ - Will there be any exchange or buyback policy for old tokens?

Answer- CCA has advised Token OEMs / Distributors to publish exchange or buyback policies for replacing FIPS 140-2 tokens with FIPS 140-3 tokens. But till date there is no information given on this by any OEM. You can recheck the details with eSolutions by August 2026 end.
